    The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) is a registered civil society organisation in Ghana and is guided by a Constitution adopted by its Delegates Assembly, which is the highest decision-making body of the organisation.

    It is a national umbrella organisation of organisations of persons with disabilities in Ghana, which was established in 1987 and is legally registered under the laws of Ghana. GFD is visible at the national level and has branches in all ten (10) administrative regions of Ghana and in over 200 districts of Ghana’s 216 districts.

    The project works with member organisations in the following three countries in Africa.

    • Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD) - Ghana
    • Association Malienne pour la Sauvegarde du Bien-être Familial (AMASBIF) - Mali
    • Polycom Development Project- Kenya in cooperation with SDGs Forum Kenya
    • Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) (legally represented by GCAP Global Foundation) - Africa and global

      The goal of Leave No Woman Behind is that women who face multiple discriminations, exploitation, abuse and/or violence take part in national, regional and global processes for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure that they are not left behind.

      Double/multiple discrimination of women is a crucial issue - for the individual girls and women, but also in numbers: 600 million women alone live with a disability. Many of them face discrimination as women and as people with disability.

      The project envisages bottom-up processes in three countries: Ghana, Mali, and Kenya:

      • Women and girls with disabilities
      • Women and girls facing multiple discriminations as they are indigenous, ethnic, or due to age, caste and work and sexual orientation.

      These women are excluded from political processes locally, nationally and don’t have access to regional and global levels. The overall goal is to create space for political participation for these women. In this space they advocate for their rights and ensure they are not left behind.

      The consortium of four organisations works on:

      1. National bottom-up processes:
      2. Discriminated women participate and push for their demands into the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
      3. Civil society understands the issue of double/multiple discrimination and includes them in their advocacy work on SDGs and beyond.
      4. Governments are aware of and work against multiple discriminations of women and include them in processes

      In addition there are two objectives that have a regional/global focus:

      5. Regional influencing: CSOs of discriminated women coordinate at the regional level and participate in political processes on SDGs in the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

      6. Global influencing: CSOs of discriminated women participate in the Global Call to Action Against Poverty constituency group of women/feminists and participate in the Agenda 2030 processes in the High Level Political Forum and CSW/CEDAW to raise the issue of women with disabilities successfully.
